Marion Stephan's work focuses on creating moments of suspense.
Hidden scenes or stories in her paintings cannot be captured at first sight,
but can rather be imagined only by a special atmosphere.
Sometimes humorous, sometimes gloomy up to slightly threatening, with atmospheric intensity this suspense solely emerges through the unshown.
It is always that moment of time before something happens or after something has happened t
hat is concretely represented.
Therefore her paintings tell the possibility of a story behind things.
The actual story remains open, in a state of uncertainty.

"I like to leave my paintings open to the viewer,
let them be accessible, vulnerable and explorable.
The interpretation of the viewer can and shall vary individually,
because the creative process should not end by finishing a painting.",
Marion Stephan says about her works.
